Plot: Shuji Kiritani (Kazuya Kamenashi) is arguably the most popular boy in school. The girls want to date him and the guys want to be him. His girlfriend Mariko (Erika Toda) is equally popular and super nice and his friends include virtually everyone.... Well, mostly everyone. Everyone but Akira Kusano (Tomohisa Yamashita). Akira is far from serious and he's in his own delusional little world. His mere presence unnerves Shuji to no end but Akira, being the aloof boy that he is, remains oblivious to Shuji's dislike for him. Where Shuji places all of his decisions on what others will think of him, Akira does what he pleases without care of other people's opinions. Ironically, though Shuji appears to be the better of the two, he's unhappy and treats life more like a stragety game than something he should enjoy where Akira abides by the obligation to enjoy himself and hold no grudges against the students who make him something of an outcast. With the arrival of the new girl, Nobuko Kotani (Maki Horikita), an uprise among the students begins as her quiet and unconfident demeanor makes her fair game for bullies and entertainment for the onlooking bystanders. It's a display so pathetic that even Shuji can't stand by and tolerate it. Shuji, still seeing life as a strategy game, decides to secretly help Nobuko become popular by telling her how to eat, sleep and breathe like a popular girl. In exchange, Nobuko can't tell anyone Shuji is speaking to her. In the early stages, Akira somehow joins with Shuji to help and affectionately nicknames her "Nobuta," which becomes her secret code name. Slowly but surely, Shuji and Akira become best friends during their quest to produce Nobuta.
